Vietnamese President Diem and his brother are assassinated right outside of Saigon. • Fall, 1964 U.S. turns down an offer of secret peace talk with North Vietnam • January 29, 1966 U.S. begins bombing around Haipong Hano N. Vietnam

  3. Vietnam War • January 1960 U. S. bombs dropped on N. Vietnam total over 600.000 tons • November 3, 1969 President Nixon says he plans withdrawal of all U.S. troops on a secret timetable • December 15 1969 President Nixon announced the reduction of another 50.000 troops by mid April 1970
