ASTN use cases examples Georg Lehr, T-Systems
Purpose and scope • as a lot of work is already ongoing in ITU-T and TMF. • NOBEL needs to focus information modelling work, • Proposal for selection of areas for studies: • concentrate ASTN aspects which require changes in the way how the network is managed: e.g.: • Visibility of connections (in the case of switched connections), • Maintenance philosophy in ASTNs, • Provisioning of end-to-end connections over several operator or vendor domains (E-NNI), • Neighbour and Service Discovery. • describe the use cases in simple natural language • use cases depend on migration steps (called “scenarios”). • example: visibility of switched connections • scenarios represent different distribution between management plane and control plane • this distribution has impact on information model
Scenarios (Examples) • Current transport networks • ASTN switched Service; Scenario 1: visibility on switched connections as in current transport networks • ASTN switched Service; Scenario 2: visibility on switched connections as in current transport networks; but only „on demand by reference “ • ASTN switched Service; Scenario 3: visibility like for a call in the telephone network • E-NNI • intra carrier • inter-carrier
Use Cases (Examples) • Scenario 1 • Use case connection setup • Use case policy • Use case charging • Use case maintenance • ....
Further steps • agreement on the approach, scope, and the structure of the document • overview on the relevant scenarios and use cases • link this activity to ongoing work on centralized versus distributed implementation of control plane components [1]. • add contributions on other items (such as E-NNI, ND and SD). • agree on a terminology for the use cases that is consistent with standards (e.g. [3]). • find more scenarios and use cases • work on a deeper level of specification (e.g. using the material given in [2]).
