Focus Of Briefing UQ has objectives of: • to provide leading facilities for pharmaceutical research, education & drugs commercialism • focus on research at the same time emphasising commercialism & marketing • facilitates world class pharmaceutical research & development in pursuit of new drugs technologies & strategies that will have positive impact on human health

Preparation & Planning It is a big project, costly & risk involve • Studies were made of its feasibility • Conduct scenario planning • Consultation with various groups, communities • Identify users of the project i.e UQ Schools of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Insurance & Financial services, Pharmaceutical Society of Australia & Princess Alexandra Hospital • Studies on how to make the project attractive to possible investors

  4. Cost & Funding • A$60million • Options of investors i.e partnership with public agencies or public-private partnership

  5. Public-Private Partnership • Gives more freedom for commercial purpose (for return of investment) • Facilitates greater level of investment • Accelerate project implementation • More a risk-taker • vast resources

The Challenge- Attracting Investors Studies and Scenario Planning findings: • Exciting design • Good location • Resolve site tenure • Define sharing of facilities • Clear understanding of risks • Discuss with state and federal government • UQ owns land • Investors own building • Forecast for 15 – 20 years
