  1. In-class Writing #11:Information for Planning a Career The purpose of this writing is to have you discuss and brainstorm about the kinds or types of information you believe are useful and helpful for students to know about or to have access to when planning for professional careers in the arts and design fields so that we can come up with ideas for a “Career Planning” resource. In thinking about this issue, I’m going to ask that you not focus on the structure of academic programs or majors within the School of Visual Arts or the College. Instead, think of the task as one to develop a kind of “wish list” of information or resources that you would like to see on a career planning website. What would you like to know about planning a career? To begin, I’m going to ask that you brainstorm about this question in small groups. Discuss it, throw some ideas around, share experiences that you may have had about this issue. Once you’ve spent some time discussing the issue, I want each group to develop a list of items that came up in your discussion and which you believe to should be included in our hypothetical “Career Planning” website. After this is accomplished, we’ll discuss the lists as a class and collate the items to come up with a single list of items.
