  2. Definitions • Input – contribution or effort made to achieve the outputs. • Process– procedure, method or means. The activities we put in place and the order in which they are implemented so that the outputs can be achieved. • Output – production. The amount of services produced in a given time. • Outcome – result or upshot. The impact of a service on service users and/or on the population as a whole.

Input Contribution of effort to achieve the output Defining outcomes against other terms Staff & financial resources e.g. Extra staff employed to improve service provision Quantitative e.g. The number of service users seen per month. The number of operations completed in a week OUTCOME Output The amount of services produced in a given time Process Procedure, method or means. The activities put in place and the order in which they are implemented so that the outputs can be achieved. The measurable results, impacts or consequences of actions, a positive improvement e.g. An increase of older people remaining in their own homes in the community The interrelated activities which produce the outcome e.g. commissioning/ individualised assessment/care provision

  4. Definition and Framework for Outcomes Definition of an outcome: “the impact or effect on the person concerned as a result of help received” • Individual outcomes • Service level outcomes • Strategic or population outcomes • Maintenance outcomes • Change outcomes • Prevention outcomes

Objective Type Measures 1.The difference in offending rates between children leaving care and all children of the same age will be reduced. 2.Reduce the number of bed spaces provided by 5% by October. 3. There is a register of service user complaints. 4. There is a written equal opportunities policy. 5. Fewer service users will experience tenancy failure. 6. 100% of high risk service users will be reassessed every 6 months. 7. All patients/service users will have a written individual support plan within 2 days of entering the service. 8. All staff will be paid at least minimum wage plus £1.50. Decide whether these objectives are outcome, output or input/process

  7. Objective Type Measures 1. All assessments will be undertaken within 5 working days of the client accessing the service. 2. All service users to have an assessment and support plan within one month of entry to the centre. 3. 110 hours of home visits to be undertaken per week 4. Fewer service users report feelings of isolation and low self esteem. 5. All staff will be trained and made aware of their responsibilities to protect vulnerable adults from abuse. 6. Write and agree a protocol for joint working by September. 7. 80% of rehabilitation plans will be completed and the case closed within 3 months 8. Reduce the rate of teenage pregnancy by 5% Decide whether these objectives are outcome, output or input/process

  14. Exercise • Each person is given a card. On the card is written either: • A strategic Outcome • Individual Outcome • Process / Input • Move around the room until you find the two people whose cards link to yours e.g. • Increase the number of pwidd who use public transport • Learn to use the bus to get to the leisure centre • Invest in travel training schemes for pwidd
