Goal and Objectives GOAL: Participants will be aware of Georgia’s PLAN to introduce Georgia elementary students to Georgia’s 17 Career Clusters OBJECTIVES: • Discuss rationale (Legislation & CCRPI) • Discuss effective practices and accountability • Briefly discuss Georgia’s career planning model • Elementary cluster activities/resources • Reporting
Georgia General Assembly • 2010-BRIDGE/mandates career-related assessments and an individual graduation plan updated annually • 2011-HB 186/mandates alignment with the national career clusters • 2012-HB 713/mandates a comprehensive K-5 career development program

DRAFT Exceeding the Bar: a companion to the College and Career Ready Performance Index for Elementary Schools In addition to the fourteen (14) items within the College and Career Ready Performance Index, elementary schools may earn additional points for these supplemental indicators. • Percent of students in grades K – 5 successfully completing above grade level core courses (ELA, reading, mathematics, science, social studies) • Percent of students successfully completing world language courses • Percent of students successfully completing fine arts courses • School has earned a Georgia Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Program Certification • *Percent of fifth grade students with a complete career portfolio by end of grade 5 (moves to face of CCRPI in 2016-2017) • Percent of students in grades 1-5 with a fully documented Fitnessgram assessment • School or LEA-defined innovative practice accompanied by documented data supporting improved student achievement To be considered at a later date for inclusion on the mandatory indicators or as an Exceeding the Bar indicator : School’s average score on the Georgia Teacher Effectiveness Measurement School’s average score on the Georgia Leader Effectiveness Measurement Georgia Department of Education Dr. John D. Human Services Georgia’s 17 Career Clusters Information Technology Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security Manufacturing Manufacturing Marketing Marketing Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Transportation, Distribution & Logistics
Career Pathway A career pathway is a coherent, articulated sequence of rigorous academic and career/technical courses, usually beginning in the 9th grade that leads to college and career readiness.
Sequenced Pathway Therapeutic Services • Multiple entrance and exit points: • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Certificate • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Certificate • Registered Nurse (RN) – Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, Masters Degree • Specialized Nursing – Bachelor Degree and beyond
Career Cluster Activities • 17 activities—representing the 17 Career Clusters • Suggested to help bring about career awareness and the cluster concept • Activities will be grade specific—no more than 4 per grade • Activities may be conducted by a school counselor, classroom teacher, media specialist, or a cluster-related community business or industry representative • Available on the GaDoe website—tentative 11/16/2012
