Teaching Science • Science logs • Students had science logs for writing down their predictions and observations • Foss kits • The teacher would use the foss kits to teach science to the class. • They would spend a whole week learning about various properties of pitch
Halloween • To ensure that learning was still taking place on Halloween the teacher had students do Halloween themed science activities • Students were making siders from marshmallows • Students had a spinning ghost activity were they needed to find a way to make it spin • Frankenstein Hand • Students made predictions about what would happen, did the experiment, and the teacher explained in scientific terms what happened.
Science in Reading • During the mornings the students were learning about the ocean with various books about the ocean • Students were in their reading groups that were grouped by levels. • The teacher would spend 20 minutes with each reading group.
My lesson • My lesson was the last lesson in my unit and was modified a bit so that it could be taught without the previous lessons • The lesson involved spinning colored wheels • The students were very well behaved • They enjoyed the science lesson
Classroom Layout • During the time the students were learning about the ocean the whole white was lined up with books about the ocean • Desks were arranged into groups with a table in the right corner of the room. • The table was used for reading groups and when the teacher needed to explain things to a small group of students
