Bald Eagle •The Bald Eagle has been a perfect symbol for our country since 1782 •It is important because it means peace,strength, and freedom •There is a dangerous spray that was killing eagles •There is an eagle on the Great Seal that’s on the President’s plane and on a carpet that is in the White House by Jess and Julie

  3. Pledge of Allegiance Text • It was first published in a Boston magazine in 1892 and made by Francis Bellamy. • It promises loyalty to the United States. • James Upham asked Francis E.Bellamy to write a new flag salute. • It hasn’t been changed for 58 years and the last change was to add two words “Under God”. by Iris and Finn Text Text

  4. The Liberty Bell •England gave the Liberty Bell to the U.S.A. in 1752. •It stands in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. •It’s a symbol of freedom. •The Liberty Bell rang when the Continental congress signed the Declaration of Independence. •It weighs as much as a pick-up truck. by Wyatt and Bix.

  5. The Lincoln Memorial It honors Abraham Lincoln. It was built 1914-1922 It is found at the mall in D.C. It is 19 feet tall and 175 tons. On May 30, 1922, more than 50,000 people showed up for its dedication. Lincoln was president during the Civil war. It represents that people should be free. By Ethan Brogger and Sonya

TheStar Spangled Banner • On September14,1814, Francis Scott Key wrote a poem which later became our National Anthem. • The National Anthem honors our flag and our freedom. • In 1918 Woodrow Wilson ordered that our National Anthem would be played at military events. • In 1931 the Star Spangled Banner became our National Anthem. The Declaration of Independence •Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence on July 2,1775. •The Declaration of Independence was then copied on to a piece of parchment, which other members of Congress signed on August 2, 1776. •There were 86 changes to Jefferson’s draft. •On July 4, 1776 Congress voted to approve the Declaration of Independence. •It is the most important document in our nation’s history. •It was the first to say that the United States of America was nation.   8. The Constitution •It was written in May 1787, and was signed by 55 people in Pennsylvania. •It is important because it was made so the colonies could get along. •It was written in 4,543 words. •The constitution is cool because it can be amended. By Dean and Kaden

The White House •The White House is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C , it was built for George Washington and his crew. •It has 6 floors,2 basements and 2 public floors. •It represents the PRESIDENT. •There are 32 bathrooms, 412 doors, 147 windows, 12 chimneys, 3 elevators, 1 swimming pool, 1 library, 1 bowling alley, 1 movie theater, 1 horseshoe pit and 1 putting green. by Taylin and Marcis

Washington Monument •On July 4,1848 Robert Mills designed the WashingtonMonument in Washington D.C.•It honors George Washington because he was the firstpresident. •It is one of the tallest buildings in the worldat this time. •It is 555 feet, 5 and 1/8 inches tall. • The Washington Monument is as tall as 31 giraffes and weighs as much as 15,000 African elephants. by Madelineand Bowen

  11. The Capitol Building •Congress worked there since 1800 •It was made by William Thornton. •It is important because the congress works there. •(President) George Washington chose the winner of the design contest. by Alissa and Leo

The Statue of Liberty •The Statue of Liberty shows FREEDOM. •More than 5 million people visit the Statue of Liberty a year. •It was made in1884 by French sculptor named Bartholdi. •It is in New York harbor. •France felt sorry for Abraham Lincoln’s death and wanted to show support for America. Mount Rushmore •Created in 1941 by Gutzon Borglum in the Black Hills of South Dakota. •Represents the growth of the US and honors the presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. •The Faces are 60 feet high and originally the torsos were supposed to be included in the sculpture. •Borglum died before finishing Roosevelt’s head, so his son finished the sculpture. •By Ms. Lauren
