  4. Introduction Water problem is one of the major problems in India. In India every year thousands of people suffer and about 1,600 people die from water borne diseases such as Diarrhea, Dysentery, Cholera etc. and most of them are children below the age of five A site visit to village Ser-Anglong Ser-Anglong is a village of Karbi Anglong district (Assam). This village is very near to our school, so as part of the Intel Learn project, we went to there to survey the daily lives of village people. We saw that they have different problems, but water problem was the biggest problem, because of poor water facilities. We felt sad that the people did not even offer us a glass of drinking water – because of water scarcity

  5. About The Village Our Observation - The village Ser-Anglong is a geographical hilly area. Here rain comes in summer. Generally the weather of the village is hot in summer and cold in winter. Due to hilly area people are unable to dig well deeply cause of hard soil and hard rock under the ground. The distance from Diphu town is about 5 km – Diphu is the nearest place where water pipelines are there. Here the main transportation is by auto that is very costly. So we decided to conduct a survey….

  6. Our Survey questions and answers We are the students of J.N.V Diphu, we are here for a survey Our Questions ------ Q.1. Can you help us by answering some of our questions regarding this village? Q.2. How many people are there in your village? Q.3. How many of them are literate? Q.4. What is the main problem in your village? Q.5. What are the main water source in your village? Q.6. Is this two wells sufficient for your daily uses? Q.7. Why didn’t you dig another well? Villagers Answers---- A.1 Yes, sure of course. You can. A.2. There are about 800 people in our village. A.3. Only a few of them are literate. A.4. Water Problem is the main problem in our village. A.5. There are two wells in our village, one is in the west of our village and the other one at the center of the village. A.6. Since two wells are not sufficient for us and sometimes it get dried up and during the rainy season the water becomes very muddy which is not safe for drinking. A.7. Because we don’t have sufficient money.

  7. Our Survey Report A8. Yes, after use of water we get lots of diseases like dysentery, diarrhea, cholera etc. And more over lots of people die from these diseases. A9. We are unable to use the drilling machine because it is very costly and we are unable to collect the funds. A10. Yes, we find lots of difficulties in using this water specially during the winter season the well use to be dried up due to scarcity of rain water. Rain water is the main source of water here. Moreover in summer too the water becomes muddy but we people are force to use this water since there is no any other way of finding water and moreover the Government are not supplying any water facilities. So, small children and babies are facing lots of difficulties from using this water and they get lots of sickness. Moreover women are force to carry water from the other villages. A11.: We conserve water by digging as a small muddy well just like a pit to store water especially during the summer and rainy season and some store water in the drum, sintax where the water falls from the roof. Q8. After using this water do you face any problem? Q.9 Then why didn’t you use drilling? Q10.Does you find any difficulties in using this water and in which season do you face the most? Q11. How do you conserve water?

  8. Our Survey Report A12: Some of the people boil water and drink and some people boil and pour it in the filter for the better purification. A13. Yes, we get lots of diseases like skin diseases, diarrhea, cholera, athlete’s feet etc. A14. Yes, of course we have discussed about this problem and complain too. We tried to dig another well but it was unable to dig so we have complain about it to the Government and political leader (E.M) and also. A15. Yes we need immediate solution Q12. Does the village people drink water without purifying? Q13. By using this water do you get any diseases? Q14. Did you all discuss and complain about this problem? Q.15. Are you searching any solution?

  9. Our Survey We visited and checked few wells & saw the conditions of those. They said that in winter the water level goes further down We discussed with the village people and knew that they are suffering from water scarcity Some of Villagers informed that rain water is collected in a muddy well. We saw that the water of the wells is muddy. Women daily spend many hours to fetch water from the well

  10. Graphical Representation of our Analysis Hanse’s family with 4 members are living in Ser-Anglong. Teron’s family is also four members but they are living in council colony of Diphu Town. Here the graph of water used by two families in various tasks.

  11. Our team proposal Flyer for Village meeting to solve Water Crisis • Suggestions to Solve Water Crisis • The village people committee will talk with District council for supply of sufficient amount of water in their village. • Need to dig two wells in this village. Find a good place for the well. There must be a water source, such as an open body of water or a running stream. We came to know after the thorough study through internet that the well should be at least 100 feet from the source, so that the ground can act as a natural filter for the water. • Cover the bottom of well with about four or five inches of small rocks. This will act as a filter and will help keep insects and wildlife from entering the well from below. • The village committee should also write an application to Public Health Emergency department to provide sufficient amount of fresh drinking water.
