The Criminal Justice System: The Process • Arrest • Most crimes are prosecuted at the state level • Indictment • Grand Jury (in PA Magisterial Justice) • Criminal Trial (in PA Court of Common Pleas in Meadville) • Prosecutor attempts to demonstrate the guilt of the defendant to a jury • The defendant attempts to demonstrate that the case against him is not sufficient for conviction • If the defendant is found guilty, he may appeal if he has been denied due process rights
