Craig Horner as Richard Rahl • Craig Horner plays Richard Rahl in Legend of the Seeker and so I can’t really imagine anyone else taking up the role of Richard Rhal. He plays the role perfectly, grasping the rage and emotion of Richard.
Bridget Regan as Kahlan Amnell • For the role as Kahlan Amnell, Bridget Regan is a perfect choice. She is a perfect choice because she plays Kahlan in Legend of the Seeker. She plays the gentleness and warrior of Kahlan very well. It would be hard to imagine someone else for the role.
Bruce Spence an Zedd • Bruce Spence plays the wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander in the series, Legend of the Seeker and does a wonderful job. He fits perfectly the physical description of Zedd as well and portraying the old wizard’s personality. I can’t think of anyone else who could portray Zedd as well as Spence does.
Alison Bruce as Verna Sauventreen • Alison Bruce filled the role of Sister Verna in Legend of the Seeker. Although it was only a short role, she did it justice portraying Sister Verna’s devotion for the Creator, loyalty to Richard and her new was of thinking towards the Palace of the Prophets.
Elizabeth Hawthorne as Prelate Annalina Aldurren • Elizabeth Hawthorne portrayed Prelate Annalina in the Legend of The Seeker. She did well do portray the Prelate’s wisdom, strength and ruthlessness. I think she should continue her roll as the Prelate.
Nicolas Cage as Tobias Brogan • In my mind, Nicolas Cage would be perfect for the role of Lord General Tobias Brogan of the Blood of the Fold. Some of his better roles are of him being a little crazy but still looked up to. Tobias is still looked up to by his troops, but is crazy in believing that he is doing the Creator’s work when he is really not.
Taking over D’Hara and Midlands By accepting himself to be the new Lord Rhal and trying to bring the Midlands back together shows that Richard has come a long way from being a simple woods guide. He shows new leadership and the ability to manage the Midlands and D’Hara. Kahlan is hurt when she hears about Richard disbanded the Midlands. She feels that as the Mother Confessor, she had let the Midlands down by letting the lands be separated. She realizes that what Richard had done was for the best and trusts him more and his ability to lead. Palace of the Prophets is destroyed When the Palace of the Prophets is destroyed, all the Sisters and students who were still loyal to the light and Richard has their priorities changed. They realize that they can show the Creator’s light within the span of a normal life time. Verna is named Prelate When Verna is named Prelate she at first feels rage towards her predecessor, Ann. Verna is furious that Ann never told her anything and always had things hidden in riddles. Verna soon realizes that she was the only one Ann trusted and as a result became more willing to help the cause against Jagang. She is also becomes confident in herself, changing the ways of teaching at the Palace of the Prophets. Mriswith saving Richard’s life When a Mriswith saves Richard’s life, Richard shows a great deal more sympathy and respect for the misunderstood creatures. This proves to be a big mistake later on. Richard, as a result is more careful on who he can trust.
Gratch takes Zedd to Aydindril In the Midlands, Gars were ferocious creatures that ate people. So naturally Zedd was terrified to let Gratch carry him to Aydindril. Gratch was careful with the old wizard and protected him. This changed Zedd’s ideas about the creature and became more trusting. Ann tells Verna and Zedd her plans After much investigating, Ann finally reveals her plans to Verna. Verna is now more willing to help Ann now that she knew what she was being thrown into. When Ann tells Zedd what she required him to do at the Palace of the Prophets, he also becomes more willing to help. He states that he would have willingly helped her if she had told him what she wanted in the first place As a result of this, Ann might become more trusting and tell people her plans. People are more willing to help when they know the truth about what is going on. Verna is Captured When Verna is captured by the Sisters of the Dark she feels stupid and foolish. She is more careful about the people who she could trust. Verna was also collared with a Rada’Han and reconsiders the use of the collar on young wizards that they taught. Tobias looses his cool and unleashes his unknown power Tobias discovers that he has magic and goes crazy. He cries that the Creator is a baneling and that since he was the one with the power that he was the Creator. This resulted in his death by his sister.
Passion Rules Reason, for Better or for Worse • Wizard’s Third Rule: Passion Rules Reason the main theme of wisdom in the book. Passion clouds our judgment, sometimes causing more trouble for everyone. Richard learns about the rule and uses it to keep his head when he goes and rescues Kahlan from the Palace of the Prophets. He did violate the rule causing more trouble in Aydindril.
Blood of the Fold • Blood of the Fold is a good title for the book because it is the Blood of the Fold that was the major enemy of the book. The Blood was also the main pawn used by the Imperial Order because of their hatred towards magic. It was also the near fall of the Blood of the Fold that changed Richard’s view about fighting the Imperial Order. He had promised that he will kill anyone who joined the Order to a man. With only a few Blood of the Fold members left, Richard stopped the battle and offered the remaining men the chance to join him. He figured that more people will join if their other choice wasn’t to be slaughtered.
Conflict • The Imperial Order had taken over the Old World and was starting to take over the Midlands. Any land that did not join the Order was slaughtered. To prevent this, Richard responded to this by disbanding the alliances of the Midlands and offered the lands protection from the Order by joining D’Hara. • I don’t think that there could be another way that Richard could have responded to the threat of the Imperial Order. Any other way would cost the lives of thousands and would destroy the Midlands.
Midlands Disbanded • I’m Megan MacMillan reporting from the Confessor’s Palace in Aydindril. A new Lord Rahl has just appeared on scene with shocking news. Lord Rahl has taken the Midlands hostage by surrounding D’Haran troops all around the city. He says that the alliances between the lands in the Midlands is hereby dissolved. Trade routes will be blocked and it will be every land for themselves. Every land is to surrender to D’Hara if they wish to prosper. • Lord Rahl claims that this is to protect the people from the Imperial Order. According to him, the Imperial Order is slaughtering any land that will not join them. He accuses the Order for the slaughter in Ebinissa last month. He is not letting any of the lands to hold their own armies to stand up against the Imperial Order. • However, Lord Rahl does promise peace to the Midlands. He promises that every land that joins D’Hara will be treated fairly and that everyone will pay a small fee to help pay for the army that will be established only to protect the Midlands, primarily against the Imperial Order. • This caused a great uproar amongst the representatives of each land. Many protested that since the Midlands have held their ground for thousands of years, that they could defend themselves. Lord Rahl argues, “The Mother Confessor offered you a chance and you turned your backs on that offer, and on her…The Mother Confessor suffered your bickering…I will not…The Midlands will be joined yet again and made stronger for the struggle.” (p. 142) Others believe that this new Lord Rhal is no better than his father, Darken Rahl, who had captured much of the Midlands last summer. • Galea has already join D’Hara under the leadership of the Queen, Kahlan Amnell. This promises to either make the Midlands stronger or destroy it. Let’s hope that this new alliance will make the Midlands stronger. From the Confessor’s Palace, I’m Megan MacMillan
Palace of the Prophets The story reaches a climax near the end of the book when the emperor Jagang of the Imperial Order is approaching the Palace of the Prophets. It is the only time in the book where all the main characters are in the same place at the same time. Jagang had lured Richard to the Old world so he could send more mriswith to Aydindril. The Palace of the Prophets is destroyed so that Jagang would not be able to get his hands on the secrets of the palace. The true Sisters of the Light escaped the palace to continue to teach someplace else. Richard and Kahlan return to Aydindril just in time to defend the city against the mriswith attack. If Jagang had gotten into the Palace of the Prophets, all would have been lost. He would take control of the New and Old world without getting old because of a spell around the palace.
“Dear Creator, she had a Rada’Han around her neck. Panic washed through her in a dizzying rush.” p. 460 “Almost before he realized what he was doing, Richard drew his sword. The unique ring of steel filled the room.” p. 100 “Pushing back her long hair back over her wolf hide mantle, Kahlan knelt beside the young man under the axel hub. It was too dark to see how badly he was injured, but by his panting grunts, feared it was serious.” p.369 “His choice of messengers, though, left Tobias uneasy. The Creator had told Tobias, in his dreams not to question His plans.” p.421 “And then the world went red. He felt warm blood splatter his face as he saw the flimsy nightdress slashed open; severed edges of diaphanous material fluttered as if in a blast of wind.” p. 355 Terry Goodkind tends to write events as what they are. He is descriptive in his writings but does not glamorize the scenes that are laid out. Sometimes he can be a little too descriptive on certain subjects. Terry Goodkind writes each section of the book depending on which of the main characters is featured at the moment. He has their thoughts, feelings and surroundings well described. He describes the scenery the best he can without drowning on by spending a page and a half describing a tree.
