Auto Forms Mode • Makes filling out forms easy in both HTML and PDF • Seamless transition between virtual and forms mode when you arrow, tab, or mouse click • No need to press enter for forms mode in order to type • Sound indications provide feedback as you navigate in and out of forms mode • Navigation Quick Keys still available, even on form fields • User definable time delay option for forms mode (up to 5 seconds) • Trainers find this mode easier when working with new users • Experienced JAWS users love how fast it is with less keystrokes • Sighted users with a mouse find it easier with JAWS running • Personalized Settings (INSERT+SHIFT+V) lets you disable Auto Forms Mode for certain URLs
Real Speak Solo Direct Synthesizer • Replaces the SAPI 5 solution that shipped with JAWS 8 and 9 • Much more responsive when navigating and typing • Samples and downloads of all languages and voices now available • Link to this page from the JAWS help menu under “Web Resources” • Only works with Freedom Scientific products • Next update of MAGic and upgrade of OpenBook will include support • Already shipping with SARA 9.0 • Can be used with 40-minute demo version also • Listen to the August FS Cast for a demonstration including Real Speak and Auto Forms Mode
Support for ARIA • Now supporting ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) • Available for Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 8 • ARIA can be used to make Web 2.0 more accessible • Live Regions • Web authors can now mark up areas that update as live regions • JAWS recognizes these regions and informs the users that they exist and if they change • Could include headlines, weather updates, etc. • User definable option to turn announcements on and off in INSERT+V options dialog • Landmarks • Web author defined bookmarks as predefined navigational aids • Navigation Quick Key “semicolon” will let you skip to these • INSERT+CTRL+; will create a list of all Landmarks
iTunes 8 Support • Out of the box access to newly released iTunes 8 • Includes the iTunes store using Virtual Cursor • September FS Cast demonstrates how it works • TSN posted on how to include this support for JAWS 8 and 9 customers • T&T Consultancy offers an updated J-Tunes solution • Adds improved keyboard navigation • Offers better access to some areas in iTunes where accessibility has not yet been properly implemented by Apple
Check for Updates Includes DAISY Books • English install of JAWS now includes titles of all published DAISY books for use with FS Reader Demo • Book titles followed by *, indicates it requires download • The JAWS “check for updates” feature will find all Books not currently installed • User can choose any of the book titles to download • Self extracting books will automatically install to the proper location • Updated titles include • Office 2007 with JAWS and MAGic • Creating Excel Forms with input messages • Updated Basic Training including the new Auto Forms Mode • What’s New demonstrating most of the new features in JAWS 10
