Mission Statement • To advocate & facilitate the seamless integration of technology into DHS classrooms in order to prepare our students for a successful career in the competitive workforce of the 21st century.
Current state of technology @ DHS • 4 desktop terminals for students in each classroom • 1 desktop for teacher use • 1 OKI wireless printer (color only for dept. heads) • Smartboards in almost every classroom • EIKI projector • ELMO document camera • Speakers in some classrooms • **Science classrooms are an exception
Challenges Working with a limited budget Lack of technological support Blocked sites/firewalls Weak infrastructure
additional Challenges • Reluctant teachers • Technology vs. state assessments • Providing technology to students of low socioeconomic status
Current State of Students • Media Literate • Multi-taskers • Kinesthetic & tactile learners • Bored with traditional methods & delivery of instruction • Digital Natives • Oftentimes, more computer literate than educators & administrators • Primed & ready for the next step…
Rationale for Change • Students need to be prepared for a career in the 21st century. • We need to ensure that our students will be competitive in the workforce. • A need to move forward. Stagnation is regression.
Ideal State of Technology @ DHS • 6-7 laptops per classroom, conducive to collaboration & wireless printing • Follow-up training for technology • Additional computer labs for individual classroom instruction • More techs in-house • Modify student accountability & rules to allow for fewer blocked sites • Accountability for integration of technology • Curriculum includes methods & ideas for the incorporation of technology • Reinforced infrastructure for wireless networks
