Context • €16 B has equated to ‘poor’ service • Private health insurance system is foundering • Reduced public funding available • Politicians promising more! Can’t be done • Preventable Illness = 20% (+ 5.8 times mult.) • Illness tsunami is building • Domestic economy is struggling • Global problem (the opportunity!)
Needs to be met • Save substantial monies • Improve public healthcare • Create self-funding jobs • Rescue private health insurers • Provoke vibrant fresh economic activity • Restore national self-belief • Re-brand Ireland & restore credibility • Avert illness Tsunami
Proposal Description • Target eradication of Preventable Illness in Ireland within 5 years • Introduce a new Health Contract that promotes personal self-care • Launch a major scientific study with an international partner on the ‘health restoration of a nation’
The Opportunity • Target saving €3 B annually • Create self-funding jobs (4,000-10,000) • Provoke domestic economic activity (agriculture, exports, fitness. health tourism etc) • Restore fairness and improve health care • Recover national pride & enable participation • Stem future illness tsunami • Rebrand Ireland as a leader
Evidence for Potential • World Health Organisation • National studies on smoking, obesity, vascular diseases and preventable cancers • Published studies in major peer reviewed journals (Blackburn, Ornish, Esselstyne etc)
