  2. 1. Do you believe you have a SOUL? 2. If so, will the soul live on after your physical body has died? 3. What if someone took away every physical thing about you – your possessions, your appearance, your voice, etc. Would you still be you? 4. How does The Metamorphosis answer these questions?

  3. EXISTENTIALISM A modern philosophy Broad term – exact def. imposs. Existence determines essence experience over theory concrete over abstract here & now over absolute & eternal No absolutes: no God, no right & wrong

EXISENTIALISM No innate meaning; meaning created by actions/choices (RIPLEY) Man has full freedom of choice and is resp. for all actions & consequences But there are no rational criteria to help us with choices Universe is absurd, incomprehensible, & man’s actions irrational (JUST DEAL WITH IT!)

  5. All this leads to anxiety and alienation “We and things in general exist, but that is all there is to this absurd business called life.”
