Junk Mail Reduction ProjectPhase III History of reducing junk mail at Rice University Phase I – commenced March 4, 2008 and continued through Summer 2008 Delivery Services collected all unwanted junk mail and notified senders. Phase II – commenced June 2008 and is still ongoing Delivery Services partnered with Ecological Mail and Intra-Mail Network (IMN) to concentrate our efforts on reducing unwanted catalogs. Ecological Mail and IMN electronically match a mailer’s address list in their database. Ecological Mail concentrates on employees no longer at the institution and IMN checks the accuracy and, where, possible, makes appropriate corrections on current employees before a mailing goes out. Phase III – March 15 through April 15, 2010 Departments will start a one-month Junk Mail reduction program. Dealing with unwanted mail wastes time and money for businesses! USPS delivers more than 100 billion pieces of bulk mail (junk mail) every year
