Finding statistical information • Statistical information is difficult to find • Problems with terminology • Lack of citation standards • Many different types of data (e.g. quantitative, qualitative, macro, micro etc.) • No large ‘catalogues’ of data sources • Even Google struggles!
Finding statistical information • Searching tips • Who is likely to have recorded the information? • Try resources on OxLIP • Look for “statistics” and “publications” on institutional Websites • Look for tables, cited sources etc. in articles
Finding statistical information • Major data providers: • IMF, World Bank, UN, WHO, ILO, IEA, OECD etc. for macro and international data • Data Archives: ICPSR and UKDA for research data, micro and government (US and UK) • Other data providers: • NGOs, National Agencies, Policy Institutes, Central Banks, Stock Markets, Research Centres • Commercial data providers
