  1. Question 2 • The Tiber River is located near the city of Rome

  2. Question 3 Gaul Egypt Asia Minor Spain Britain Carthage Greece Etruria Syria

  3. Question #4 • Etruscans and Greeks

  4. Question #5 • The Etruscans influenced the ancient Romans in Engineering with the arches as entryways into buildings and open forums as well as gladiator games. The Romans imitated the gladiator games started by the Etruscans where slaves fought one another sometimes to the death. • Also the underground trenches called cuniculus were an influence from the Etruscans

  5. Question #6 • Ancient Greece influenced Rome with: • Columns in their architecture • Writing system (Alphabet w/ Capital Letters and Vowels) • Greek art (style called Greco-Roman Art) • Gods and Goddesses (mythology……)

  6. Question #9

  7. Question #11 • At the start of the government, the Patricians and Plebeians had very different roles. The Patricians had all the say in government and were the only ones allowed to vote and hold office. Patricians could be Senators and Consuls unlike the Plebeians. The Plebeians made up the majority of the population but were not allowed to take part in the government. This angered them and eventually they began to demand equal rights in the voting and holding government offices.

  8. Question #18 • Conflict of Orders was the struggle between Patricians and Plebeians. Patricians had all the say in the government and the Plebeians couldn’t even vote or hold office. Eventually the Plebeians protested by leaving the city of Rome, refusing to fight in the military, and stopped farming. The Patricians realized they needed the Plebeians and gave in to some of their demands. Eventually the Plebeians would be allowed to hold office (Senate, 1 Consul, Tribunes, Assembly of Plebs) and vote. It resulted in Rome becoming more democratic because more people were involved in the government from various social groups. Democracy is the rule of the people and more people were having that say in the later Roman Republic.

  9. Question #19 • Checks and Balances was a way to keep different branches of a government having the same equal power (and one not having to many). So in Rome the Senate was in charge of taxes, laws and spending, while the Consul was to oversee everything, and the Assemblies controlled the use of the Military). This gave everyone an equal power to go along with checking one another with Veto Power, Vote of the Majority and elections.

  10. Question #20 • Is fairness an essential ingredient in a government? Opinion Question….
