LEARNING OBJECTIVE: to show an understanding of II.i from the point of view of characters and stagecraft • Your task is to annotate the clips from the film version with: • Quotes from the play (in green speech bubbles) • What the character is thinking / feeling – their interior monologue (in white thought bubbles) • Your comments about how the actors should perform their roles in yellow at the bottom. See the first slide as an example.

  2. My wife should be in love with me in this moonlight. Moonlight is for lovers. Yet she refuses to do what I ask. It makes me angry to meet her here in the moonlight. “Ill-met by moonlight proud Titania” Shakespeare makes the first meeting between Oberon and Titania confrontational to show how strong their conflict and emotions are. In this scene, Oberon rides a horse to emphasise his stature and power. The fairies run away in fear as he approaches. Shakespeare makes Oberon’s first words angry and aggressive.
