Imparfait: • There are several ways to speak in the past, and one way is in the imperfect tense, or imparfait. • To find the imperfect stem of a verb with the exception of être, one will have to use the nous form of the verb minus the –ons. Then, add the endingsassociatedwith the subject. je -ais nous -ions étaisétions tu -ais vous -iezétaisétiez elle/il -ait ils/elles -aientétaitétaient

Quand est-ce que tu utilise l'imparfait? • Habits • Progressive action (was/were) • Circumstances of an event: • Time + weather • Outward appearances • Emotional sense of mind • External Circumstances • Other actions in progress • Words to look for: • Le soir & tous les soirs • Le mardi & tous les mardis • Chaque jour & tous les jours • D’habitude & habituellement • Autrefois & parfois

Some examples of Imparfait: • Everymorning, I jog around the park. • Chaquematin, je couraisautour le parc. • Usually, I do well on tests, but this time, I didn’t. • Habituellement, je faisaisbiensurles examens, mais cette fois, je n’ai pas fait. • EveryTuesday, there is bboy club at Marriotts Ridge High School. • Tous les mardis, il y avaitclub de bboy au lycée de Marriotts Ridge.
