Search the Scriptures • Study Matthew 5:21-37. • What does Jesus equate with murder? • hatred • What phrase does Jesus use as an example of placing one in danger of hell? • “You fool!” • If there is trouble (a grudge, hard feelings, etc.) between you and another person, what should you do before you presume to worship God? • Be reconciled • What is a better solution than going to court—or being taken to court? • Settle the matter privately Lesson 13 Love Your Neighbor – Part 1

  3. Search the Scriptures • What does Jesus equate with adultery? • Looking at a woman lustfully • Verses 29 and 30 seem very strong. What point is Jesus making with these words? • Cut the sin out of your life—it’s dangerous! • What was the Old Testament requirement for divorce? • A certificate of divorce • How did Jesus limit divorce? • Except in cases of marital unfaithfulness (and desertion), divorce is sinful. Honoring our parents and others in authority is something we are to do for our whole lives, not just until age 18. If someone in authority tells us to disobey God, we should respectfully decline—and bear the consequences. Bearing a grudge or plotting revenge are the same as physical murder to God.
