  1. OUR SCHOOL • The name of our school is Juan del Río Ayala, a famous local writer. • It is located in Santa Brígida, a small village at 13 kms from the capital of the island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

  2. OUR SCHOOL FACTS The school has got a head master office,a deputy head office,a secretary´s office, gym, lunch room, kitchen, machine room,a library, a gymn. Two computer rooms Auditorium, Classrooms Toilets A security guard house.

  3. FACT FILES Nowadays is a Pre-Primary and Primary center with a total of 444 students. The teachers are 30; including 5 teachers specialized in foreign languages.

  4. An important part of our educative community is integrated by the Parents Association which plays an important role of communication between the teachers and the family.

  5. Our school building The school is composed by two buildings connected throw a playground. One of them is dedicated to Pre-Primary education, with children between 3-5. The other one is for Primary education students from 6 to 11/12. The school is all surrounded by a garden with some typical plants and trees.

  6. A day in the school • The lessons start at nine o’clock. The students start arriving from half past eight and some of them come by the school transport. When the bell rings at nine, the students enter to the different classes and begin their lessons. There is a break at quarter to twelve and it takes 25 minutes. The Pre-Primary break is at the same time, but it has a flexible durability. After the break, the lessons continue until two o’clock. At this time students who have lunch at the school go to the dining room until half past three. The rest of the students can be picked up by their relatives.

  7. Subjects • There are ten subjects in our school: • Language • Maths. • English. • French. • Science/Humanistics. • Physical education. • Music. • Art. • Religion. • Alternative

  8. Academicyear Our academic year starts at the beginning of September and finishes at June. The course is divided in three terms: The first term is from 7Sep- 22 Dec. The second term is from 8 Jan- 31March. The third term is from 1 April- 21June.

  9. Foreign Languages we learn The main taught language is English. The children start it at the age of three and they continue learning it until they finish at Primary school. Our center also offers French as second foreign language. At the Pre-Primary grades students have one hour and a half per week. At the Primary school students have three or four hours per week.

  10. School Festivals • During the terms, plenty programmes and activities are organized. We have the Christmas party at December, the Peace Day at January, Carnival at February , A book day in April and Canary Island Day at May… These are the most relevant ones and all the different grades take part on them. Every grade of the school also plan activities according to their year programs.

  16. School Rules There are lots of school rules that we have to keep. Students are guided mainly to respect every member of our educative community. They must contribute to keep all the school clean and during the playground time the students are organized in groups to collect rubbish. They don’t have to wear uniforms.
