Imperialism Debate Modern World History Friday, December 4
Learning Targets I will prepare for the debate by reviewing with my group, paying attention to our arguments, and how I will contribute to my team and the whole class. I will be engaged, respectful of others, and contribute to the success of the debate by talking when necessary and staying quiet when my voice is not needed.
First Take five minutes to prepare for the debate in your groups. What are our arguments? What are our counterpoints? How will we decide who speaks when and for how long?
Second Help reorganize the desks, please. You will have three minutes to present your argument, so choose which person or people will present your initial statement. Imperialism is justified because . . . (three minute statement) Imperialism is never justified because . . . (three minute statement) Recorders, write down some things the other side says, so you can argue against those points!
Third Keep track of what the other side uses as arguments, so that you can argue against their position. Mr. Hook and Mr. Kellogg will chair the debate, so pay attention!
Final How did the debate go? Was one side more prepared than the other? Were you personally prepared for the debate?
