Department of Mathematical Information Technology The roots of the Department of Mathematical Information Technology are in the Laboratory of Scientific Computing, which is founded in 1992. In 1998 the Department of Mathematical Information Technology was founded at same time as the Faculty of Information Technology, which is only in kind in Finland. In 2000 the amount of students was about 1100 in the Faculty of Information Technology and 55 per cent of them studied mathematical information technology. About 40 students are aiming at licentiate’s or doctor’s degrees on the moment. In the autumn 2000 the Faculty of Information Technology moved to Agora.
