  1. 2-3 Zone Defence Describing the strategy

  2. The general structure of this defence is to have two players (1 & 2) adopting a guarding stance at the top of the key with 1 on the right elbow and 2 on the left elbow. 1 & 2 need to be quick, agile aware of ball movement as they need to deny penetrating runs through the free throw line, work to double team the ball with 4 & 3 and deny rotation or switching passes 2 works with 4 when ball is passed to right wing and 1 moves across to deny passing lane back to opposition 1.

  3. Players 3, 4 and 5 adopt a defensive stance around the basket with 3 covering a triangle area between the defensive right block, right corner and right hand side of the three point line. Player 4 covers a similar triangle zone on the left side. Player 5 covers between both blocks and the free throw line. When the ball rotates to a wing, the back court line defender on that side presses the ball, number 5 denies the space around the low post and the weak side defender denies entry to the high post. 3, 4 & 5 need to be physically big, powerful and aggressive jumpers to block and regain rebounds.

  4. All the players work as a unit to keep the ball outside of the key. Each player adjusts their position relative to the movement of the ball so that the defence will always look like a 2 – 3 (two players pressing the ball and three players lined up to deny space). http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-2-3-zone-defense-basketball-154190/
