Announcements • PNoy signs the Philippine Statistical Act Last 12 September 2013, President Benigno S. Aquino III signed the Philippine Statistical Act enacted by the fifteenth Congress. This Act primarily placed the responsibility of primary data collection and statistical coordination under one body called the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). In effect, the PSA consolidates the technical staff of the NSCB with the National Statistics Office (NSO), the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) and the Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics (BLES). In consequence, the affected agencies have been abolished and the staff of these agencies are on hold over capacities. Implementing rules and regulations of the law are currently being drafted. The new PSA Act designates the NEDA Director General as the Chairman of the PSA Board, which had its initial meeting on 3 October 2013. Meanwhile, the National Statistician who will be the PSA’s chief operating officer, will be selected by a Special Committee.
