Diggs-Latham: Profile • Location: 986 Hutton St. Winston-Salem, NC 27101 (off of Peter’s Creek Parkway). • Magnet School for Visual and Performing Arts (one of 17 K-12 magnet schools in district; enrollment preference given to students in school’s residential area). • PK-5 • Total number of students ≈ 410 (based on 2011-12 school year). Lower than both the average for district and state. • Demographics: 53.7% Hispanic, 38.6% African American, 6% White, 1.7% Multi • Title I School

Diggs-Latham: EOG PERFORMANCE • School’s Designation: Priority School (2011-2012 School Year)  expected growth not received. • Though EOG scores were slowly trending upwards from 2009-2011, they saw ≈ 9% decline in student performance in both reading and math during the 2011-2012 school year. • Reading scores for Grades 3 and 4 were anywhere from 23-34 % below the district and state percentages. Grade 5 about 9% below. • Math scores for Grades 3 and 4 were anywhere from 12-15% below the district and state percentages. Grade 5 only 1.2% below.

District Partnerships • The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System actively partners with businesses in the community. • Their website provides a list of their participating Systemwide Partners: http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/domain/72 • The only partnership cited for Diggs-Latham is Centenary Methodist Church, in contrast to most schools which have several partnerships. • This suggests more work should be done forming partnerships and collaborating with the entrepreneurial sides of the community.
