Definitions to know: • Sonata Form : Evolved in 18th century. Sonata form refers to the organization of themes and harmonic relationships within a single movement • Minuet and Trio : Typically used in the third movement of classical symphonies. Elements of Form • Repetition : May also be called “restatement” because it usually restates the theme. Form depends on this and on contrast • Contrast : It is when you compare two different instruments or it is a set of procedures including stratification, juxtaposition, and interpolation
