Walking In Righteousness and Holiness of The Truth • Do not walk as the Gentiles walk Eph. 4:17-19 • Walk in righteousness and holiness of the truth Eph. 4:20-24 • Commands to put off the old self and put on the new self Eph. 4:25-32
Introduction • As we are transformed by the Word of God, we will walk in love, light and wisdom • In this way, we can encourage one another in what is right as well as lead the lost to the gospel • In God, we see perfect love, light (Truth) and wisdom • As we imitate Him, we learn to love, follow Truth (light) and apply Divine wisdom
Walking In Love Light and Wisdom • Walk in love Eph. 5:1-6 • Walk as children of light Eph. 5:7-14 • Walk as wise men Eph. 5:15-17
Walk In Love • Like children, we are to imitate Jesus’ love • He perfectly sacrificed Himself for our spiritual benefit • This love is a love from the heart that willingly and sacrificially acts to meet the spiritual and physical needs of others • The New Testament clearly shows us how we are to display our love in all purity and holiness, serving God’s purpose
Imitate Jesus’ Perfect Love • Eph 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; • Eph 5:2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
Imitate Jesus’ Perfect Love • Joh 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. • Joh 13:35 "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." • 1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.
Imitate Jesus’ Perfect Love • 1Jn 3:16 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. • 1Jn 3:17 But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? • 1Jn 3:18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.
Display Love In Purity and Holiness • Eph 5:3 But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; • Eph 5:4 and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
Display Love In Purity and Holiness • Eph 5:5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. • Eph 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Display Love In Purity and Holiness • 1Pe 1:22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, • 1Pe 1:23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
Walk As Children of Light • We are to walk as children of light who have come out of the darkness of sin through Christ • Although God is perfect Light, Truth, we are to live by His Word and seek His mercy when we sin • We also must not participate with others in sins we used to do • And we must speak out against these sins no matter what the reaction may be
Walk As Children of Light According To God’s Truth • Eph 5:7 Therefore do not be partakers with them; • Eph 5:8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light • Eph 5:9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), • Eph 5:10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
Walk As Children of Light According To God’s Truth • 1Jn 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. • 1Jn 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;
Walk As Children of Light According To God’s Truth • 1Jn 1:7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. • 1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. • 1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Do Not Participate In Darkness and Speak Out Against It • Eph 5:11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; • Eph 5:12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
Do Not Participate In Darkness and Speak Out Against It • Eph 5:13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. • Eph 5:14 For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you."
Do Not Participate In Darkness and Speak Out Against It • 1Pe 4:3 For the time already past is sufficient foryou to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.
Do Not Participate In Darkness and Speak Out Against It • 1Pe 4:4 In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you; • 1Pe 4:5 but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
Do Not Participate In Darkness and Speak Out Against It • Joh 3:19 "This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. • Joh 3:20 "For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
Do Not Participate In Darkness and Speak Out Against It • Joh 3:21 "But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God."
Do Not Participate In Darkness and Speak Out Against It • Mat 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. • Mat 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
Do Not Participate In Darkness and Speak Out Against It • Mat 5:15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. • Mat 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Walk As Wise Men • The wisest people in the world are those who follow God’s wisdom • We must use the time the Lord has given to us wisely to learn and practice the will of the Lord, not wasting our time doing evil • Our time is limited and uncertain but death and judgment are certain
Walk As Wise Men • Eph 5:15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, • Eph 5:16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. • Eph 5:17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Make The Most of Our Time By Doing The Will of God • Rom 13:11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. • Rom 13:12 The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Make The Most of Our Time By Doing The Will of God • Rom 13:13 Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. • Rom 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
Make The Most of Our Time By Doing The Will of God • Jas 4:13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit." • Jas 4:14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
Make The Most of Our Time By Doing The Will of God • Jas 4:15 Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that." • Jas 4:16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. • Jas 4:17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.
Death and Judgment Are Certain • Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, • Heb 9:28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
