MA’s in Scotland • Currently 6000 registered in Scotland • Total of 4200 undertook the 5th framework • In Hospitality 3900 in Travel 300 • Achievement is around 37 % • 30% of males achieved – 45% of females achieved the full framework • Chef is the most popular route, followed by food and drink service • Exemptions account for about 15% of entries now www.hlttc.com

Improving completion • SSC's must: • Evaluate reasons for non-completion • Develop a strategy for improving completion • Must demonstrate that there is sufficient quality capacity to deliver the MA • Must consider its’ role in the quality of delivery • Present evidence that these strategies will work and have been consulted on. www.hlttc.com

Content • New route for SVQ 3 and 4 combination • SVQ 3 will remain main outcome • Exemption will still apply for those that meet exemption criteria • Additional VQ units will be optional • Introducing “industry awards” specific to routes – i.e. Servewise Plus. www.hlttc.com

Improving retention • Access to MA via CV only • One years relevant industry experience or 6 months relevant accredited training – to access MA • Providers need to demonstrate acceptable results and to achieve a minimum level of framework achievement. • Code of Practice for training providers - compulsory • Introduce Best practice annual forum – compulsory www.hlttc.com

Methodology • Wide consultation with each group. • All returns will be discussed by focus / steering group • No element is sacred! • All inclusions/exclusions based solely on returns / evidenced demand • Submit framework to MAIG in October • Three month approval process • Introduce framework in December 2005 www.hlttc.com
