Wh-questions Each question word is asking for a specific kind of information: Who asks about a person. What asks about a thing. When asks about a time. Where asks about a place. Why asks about a reason. How asks about a way of doing something.
Types of Wh-questions There are two types of wh-questions: questions about the subject and questions about the object. Subject: Who is talking? John is talking. The answer is the subject of the sentence. Object: What is John talking about? John is talking about English class. The answer is the object of the sentence.
Examples Who is speaking? Paul is speaking. ( Subject) What is the capitol of the UAE? Abu Dhabi is the capitol of the UAE. (Subject) When is the next break? The next break is at 8:50. (Object) Where is the bathroom? The bathroom is over there.(Object)
