  3. Pretraining Dates and Location • Local Arrangements – Dale Trenda and Angie Rowe • 4700 Old Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 • 865-862-2039, Fax 865-862-0262 • dtrenda@fs.fed.us • April 25-29, 2005 (25 and 29 travel days) • Ocala National Forest, Florida • Hilton Hotel at $69 per night

  4. 2005 formatsame as last year • Veg 1-2 days depending on experience of regional trainers • Crowns and damage, Soils and DWM • One day each - repeated Tuesday - Thursday

Assignments for Pretraining • Indicator advisors get list of equipment needs to Regional trainers before April 1, 2005 • Regional Managers or appointee to get list of regional trainers attending Ocala training to Dale Trenda dtrenda@fs.fed.us by February 15, 2005 • Current list includes: • PNW-4, INT-5, NC-10, ATFHM-5, IA’s-5

  6. National Damage Protocol Test Of Precision

Reviewed new protocol • National MT mandate to test accuracy in each of the five FIA regions • Woodland trees to be included in Interior West • Manfred will send out training materials to Regions before Ocala training session • includes – • Slide set of damages for each region • New card with damage agents table

Regional Requirements: • At least three 2-person crews per FIA region to rate at least 30 damage test trees to be located on a reference area • Each regional will have a rereference area including trees that include all damages listed for that region • “Expert should confirm id of each damage on test trees so that crews should not be able to argue id • Minimize travel costs and impact on crews, if possible

  9. By the end of Ocala pretraining will: • Settle on regional training times and locations • Identify individuals with regional roles • Establish timelines for: • Crew training • Reference plot establishment • Field testing • Data submission

  11. Group Suggestion • Change unknown category to none of the damages listed below or move it to last on the list • Manfred considers this a training issue that he’ll cover but still wants true unknowns to be the main emphasis of the damage protocol

  12. Goal of National Pretraining • To calibrate regional trainers for national consistency of data collection on an annual basis.

  13. Last years format • Veg training – 2 days with botanists • Crowns, soils and DWM • One day each repeated for three days • Harder on trainers but better for trainees?
