  1. Guadalupe-Blanco River AuthorityMid-Basin ProjectRegion L MeetingNov 6, 2008

  2. Topics of Discussion • GBRA Water Demands in the Upper and Middle Guadalupe River Basin • GBRA Mid-Basin Project • Hydrologic Assumptions for Modeling • Surface Water Availability • Make-up Sources • Groundwater Option

  3. Projected GBRA Demands in the Upper and Middle Guadalupe River Basin

  4. Mid-Basin –Gonzales Diversion – 25,000 af Maximum Diversion – 75,000af 77777

  5. Hydrologic Assumptions for Modeling • Full authorized use of existing water rights • Edwards Aquifer permitted pumpage in accordance with SB3 • Effluent discharge / return flow consistent with 1997 reported discharges, adjusted for SAWS direct recycled water use of 35,000 acft/yr • Operation of Canyon Reservoir at firm yield in accordance with Certificate of Adjudication No. 18-2074E with delivery of current contractual obligations to points of diversion • Uniform diversion and delivery of 25,000 acft/yr with service provided to the New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Luling-Lockhart areas

  6. Guadalupe River Diversions @ Gonzales* *Subject to Hydrologic Assumptions and Environmental Flows

  7. Make-up Water Sources • Canyon Reservoir • Senior Water Rights • Groundwater • Off-Channel Storage

  8. Groundwater Potential - Gonzales CA# 18-3846 77777

  9. Coverage of Regional Groundwater Models • Texas Water Development Board’s Groundwater Availability Models (2004) • Southern Carrizo-Wilcox, Queen City and Sparta (SCWQCS GAM) • Central Carrizo-Wilcox, Queen City and Sparta (CCWQCS GAM) • San Antonio System-HDR Model • South Central Carrizo System (SCCS)

  10. Groundwater Summary • Groundwater is of suitable water quality and would not require additional pre-treatment • Conjunctive use project: • Provides firm water supply of 25,000 acre-ft/yr, maximizing use of renewable surface water supplies and using groundwater when surface water supplies are unavailable • Provides opportunity for aquifer recovery during wet and normal hydrologic conditions when more surface water is available

  11. Future Action Items • GBRA - Continue Work with TCEQ • GBRA - Compete Project Formulation & Analysis for Region L review in 2009 • GBRA - Continue Discussion with Gonzales Landowners
