  4. Invitations sent for Scientific Segment • Total number of invitations sent: 71 • Speakers to prepare papers and make presentations: 19 • Chairs, moderators and discussants in different sessions: 52 • Responses received to all invitations • Regrets received from 4 experts 4

Detailed Programme for Scientific Segment • Posted on the HMNDP website • Short biographies and photos received from most of the speakers in the Scientific Segment and posted on the HMNDP website • Communications currently underway with all the chairs of different plenary sessions and moderators of round table discussions and parallel sessions to develop appropriate questions centering on the topic of the session and to generate discussion oriented towards the objectives of the Meeting. 5

  11. Agenda Item 3 Invitations to Governments on Draft Meeting Declaration

  12. Circular letter to Governments and Draft Meeting Declaration A circular letter, addressed by the Heads of WMO, UNCCD and FAO, to Foreign Ministers of all Governments inviting their Heads of States or Ministers responsible for drought issues to address the High Level Segment and provide feed back on the Draft HMNDP Declaration in all languages was sent. Feedback from Governments is now coming in. Copies of the circular letter sent to PRs of WMO, UNCCD focal points (by UNCCD) and Ministers of Agriculture (by FAO) 12

  13. Agenda Item 4 HMNDP Website and Status of Online Registrations

  14. HMNDP Website • After the engagement of Symporg as the Event Manager by the Procurement Services on 18 December, we immediately worked with Mr Bertrand Johr of Symporg in designing the new HMNDP website. • The website went online on 20 December 2012 • There are 19 side bars providing information on different aspects of HMNDP • Online registration as well as submission of proposals for side events and posters is open for anyone around the world 14

Status of online registrations • As of 4 February, 140 persons registered online. • Some of the registrations are from NGOs and private individuals and it is necessary to verify their authenticity • There are 28 registrations from Nigeria (shown separately in the excel file circulated) and efforts are underway to check their authenticity through the Permanent Mission of Nigeria with the UN in Geneva 15

  19. Exhibition Booths • The Event Manager is asked to promote the rental of exhibition booths at CICG during the duration of HMNDP • The side bar on Exhibition Booths on the HMNDP website needs to be updated with more information on the available space for the booths with appropriate photos 19

  20. Agenda Item 8 Status of Resource Mobilization Efforts and Further Steps

  21. Revised Budget Estimate for HMNDPCHF 1.12 millions

Resource Mobilization Efforts • Requests for financial contribution sent to several countries including Japan, Germany, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom. • Heads of Development Banks including World Bank, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank were requested to contribute. • Letters for financial contribution also sent to Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and the European Commission. 22

Current Status of Other Contributions • Responses awaited from Germany, Kuwait, Republic of Korea, and Saudi Arabia. • World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development declined to contribute • Contacts are being made with African Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank to contribute. • Response is also awaited from European Union. 25
