Committee Overview Policy Committee Steering Committee • Meet at CCC and COC • Provide input to steering committee on policy agenda • Review and approve policy proposals and resolutions • Advocate on legislative priorities • CCC – determine policy and advocacy agenda • Separate meetings – hear from speakers, discuss and develop policy positions and resolutions • Advocate on legislative priorities
Policy Process • CCC – Determine policy and advocacy agenda • Steering Committee – Spring meeting, hear from speakers on policy topics • August – Open call for resolutions from members • Steering Committee – Fall meeting, approve new policy positions and resolutions (new and existing) • COC – Approve policy and resolutions (EENR, Resolutions Committee, Annual Business Meeting)
2013 EENR Activities • Climate Change, Adaptation, Resilience • Policy language on impacts of climate change, definition of greenhouse gases • “NLC urges the federal government to develop a multi-pollutant strategy to reduce emissions from power plants, mobile sources and other major sources to provide significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.” • Resolution on resilient communities and preparing for extreme weather events
