Plan Development & Evaluation Activity Handouts (Problem Solving Process) ASPIRE North
What does our assessment data tell us? What’s Expected?: 75% meet standard (90% on the assessment) What’s Occurring?: 52% met the standard.
Guided Practice Activity for Reteaching Hypothesis Consider the following Tier 1 hypothesis: Students in Mrs. Adam’s English class do not complete homework projects because the families do not speak English. Is this hypothesis acceptable, acceptable with modifications, or unacceptable??
Guided Practice • As written, this hypothesis violates the “alterability” factor. • Consider the following modification - Students in Mrs. Adam’s English class do not complete homework projects because the students do not have an English-speaking home network to assist in task understanding.
Guided Practice What data do we need to collect to support / refute this hypothesis? • Review home language surveys • Interview/Survey students to determine understanding of task expectations following assignment, availability of networks for project support
Guided Practice Consider the following Tier 3 hypothesis: Jack demonstrates below average math skills because there are neurotransmitter deficits hindering his success in the classroom. Is this hypothesis acceptable, acceptable with modifications, or unacceptable??
Guided Practice • As written, this hypothesis violates the “alterability” factor and the “observability” factor. • Even if neurotransmitter deficits exist, how can we alter this? Does this provide information linking to an appropriate intervention?
Activity - Goal Setting Using the information on the following pages, write goal statements for the following: Tier 1 Example: ______________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ Tier 2 Example: _________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ Tier 3 Example: ___________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________
IPF/BPF Activity • Select one of the following examples and recreate the plan to address their need • Use the Intervention Plan Logistics document and the Instructional Planning Form (IPF) or Behavior Planning Form (BPF) to record your plan
Instructional Planning Form Student Name(s)_______________________ Teacher Name________________ School Year __________ Goal ___________________________________________________________________________________ 10/03 Adapted from the U of Oregon
Integrity Activity • Select a method of assessing intervention integrity for the plan example you used • Create an intervention integrity assessment for the intervention you created in Activity 4 • Indicate how often this will be done and who will do it
Progress Monitoring Activity • Create a Progress Monitoring plan for your example by completing the logistics page • Be sure to include a Progress Monitoring schedule
Decision Rules Activity Set up Plan Evaluation for your example by setting Decision Rules • When will you review data to make decisions? (how many data points or what period of time) ___________________________________________ • What level of performance should you see at that data review? (if not at ______________, then ________________________) _________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________
Group Work Time Work on using your defined problem and data to create a plan for your problem • Write a goal • Complete IPF or BPF and/or Plan Logistics • Determine how integrity of implementation will be measured • Complete Progress Monitoring Logistics • Complete Decision Rules
For next time… • Be Ready to present your PowerPoint presentation including: • An overview of Problem Solving in the 3-Tier Model in your district/building. • A description of your project using the Project Template
