Project Description/Scope • Create a brochure and PowerPoint for Compassion Ministries • Target Audience--potential volunteers, elementary aged to senior adult • Purpose of documents: • Brochure – available to hand out or mail to interested individuals/groups in the community • PowerPoint – available for SMEs (Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator) to use when making presentations; available for viewing on a website (currently under construction)

  3. Process • Gathered existing documents • Met with two SMEs • Executive Director • Volunteer Coordinator • Interviewed volunteers representing different areas/times of service • Developed content, chunked information • Developed format, creating deliverables • Began reviews

  5. Original Documents Six slide presentation that described the purpose of Compassion Ministries and the requirements of residents. (see examples above)

  6. Content Original DOCUMENTS NEW DELIVERABLES • Resident Requirements • Purpose of programs • Emphasis on mission statement • List of volunteer duties • Volunteer Commitment • Volunteer tasks • Emphasis on need • Generalized information to help agency fit individuals/groups needs

  7. Formats • Presentation • Brochure • Master document: • Word document in table form • chunking text • images • listing slide # of PowerPoint and page # of brochure where items could be found

Challenges • Design – creating two deliverables using appropriate style and images. • Production editing – added several editors in the final stages: novice volunteers and caseworkers • Copyediting – allot adequate time and find a stopping point! Item not on “hit list” • underestimated the number of images needed

  12. Evaluation • SMEs • Caseworkers • Sample of current volunteers • Number of response forms returned • Number of volunteers recruited
