  2. Who • Is a subject pronoun. • Who or what the sentence is about (the person or thing that is doing or being something) • Usually comes at the beginning of a sentence. • Who just came in the door? • Who gave that to you?

  3. Whom • Is an object pronoun. • Usually follows a preposition (to, for, from, with) as object of the preposition. • To whom are you referring? • You loaned your book to whom?

  4. It can also be the direct or indirect object (the person or thing that is having something done to it). • Whom should I take to dinner tonight? • I saw someone whom I had met before.

  5. The easiest way to test whether who or whom is correct, is to substitute. • Who = he • Whom = him • Sometimes you will also need to turn a question around into a statement.
