Technology Design Tasks 2013 • Design and make an all weather wild bird feeding station for use in the garden. Your design must include a suitable electronic system to indicate that a bird is feeding at the station. • A sports academy wishes to have height adjustable basketball hoops for their basketball arena. Design and make a working model of a basketball hoop where the height of the hoop can be adjusted electro-mechanically (limit / proximity switches should be incorporated as part of the control system).

iPads Introduced for all 1st yrs 2012/13 following discussion and consultation with parents’ association and parents of incoming students. Technology not an end in itself but • to enhance Learning and Teaching • to eliminate inordinate weight of school bags • All books available for Junior Cycle. • Wireless sites are blocked in school. • Internet Safety applies. • All 1st yrs have a special iPad locker.
Buying iPad and licence for books • Coláiste Muire will facilitate process. • Licence lasts for 3 years. • Total cost €631.53 (iPad & cover €406, licence €225.53) vs €490 set of books. • School facilitates parents paying in instalments.
Entrance Assessment • Test produces scores in the Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Non-Verbal reasoning domains. • Timed portion amounts to 94 minutes in total Diagnoses pupils’ cognitive strengths and weaknesses Identifiespupils’ learning style preferences gifted and talented pupils pupils needing support Test date : Saturday 23rd February
