Limitations of the WEF • Tight security measures around Davos have kept demonstrators from the resort, and most demonstrations are now held in Zürich, Bern or Basel. This was because protesters got angry and smashed windows of a local McDonald’s. • The WEF is a non-profit organization, therefore any profits that are made are consumed by the Swiss government.
Other Interesting Facts • In 1979, the forum became the first non-government institution to initiate a partnership with China’s economic development commissions. • In 2005, actress Sharon Stone raised $1 million in five minutes for malaria at the Davos summit. • In May of 2006, member countries launched the Business Alliance Against Chronic Hunger.
