  2. WHAT IS A SENTENCE? A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. Different kinds of sentences have different purposes. They may make a statement, ask a question, give a command, or express strong feeling. They always begin with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark based on the purpose of the sentence.

  3. FOUR KINDS OF SENTENCES THE TERMS DECLARATIVE INTERROGATIVE EXCLAMATORY IMPERATIVE

  4. DECLARATIVE SENTENCE This type of sentence makes a statement. It ends with a period. We are on the Supernova team. My homework is interesting tonight. Our writing assignment was fun.

  5. INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE This type of sentence asks a question, okay? It ends with a question mark, okay? Should we join the drama club? How are you today? Which project is yours?

  6. EXCLAMATORY SENTENCE This type of sentence expresses strong feeling! It ends with an exclamation point! We had so much fun at the party! I cannot believe you said that out loud! Your poem is stunning!

  7. IMPERATIVE SENTENCE This type of sentence gives a command or makes a request. It ends with either a period or an exclamation point. Shut the door, please. Get over here! Please look over your work.

  8. What Kind of Sentence? I’m working on my science project. That’s one crazy video game! Where should I sit? We’ll need ten days to accomplish this task. Please see what your sister needs. I love your idea! Are there four kinds of sentences?
