A Complete Subject is… • The noun or pronoun and all the words around it. • Example: The happy, cheerful student
A Simple Subject is… • The main noun or pronoun in the complete subject • Example: The happy, cheerful student • Student is the simple subject • The happy, cheerful student is the complete subject
Practice • Find the simple subject within the complete subject. • The big green plant fell from the ceiling. • The old books sat on the metal shelves. • Our teachers are helping us study.
A Complete Predicate is… • The verb and all the words around it. • Example: walked down the hallway.
A Simple Predicate is… • The main verb or verb phrase in the complete predicate. • Example: walked down the hallway • Walked = simple predicate • Walked down the hallway = complete predicate
