  1. Discussion points for your presentation • How many people are affected by road crashes? • Who is most at risk on roads? • What makes a ‘good’ driver? • What influences your driving? • Dangerous driving – what are the consequences?

  2. Safe driving – SPEED • DISCUSS THIS SCENARIO: • You’re in a car with a mate who’s driving too fast - what can you do to keep yourself safe? • What if they won’t slow down when you ask? • What if there’s a car-full of your mates? • What if it’s a parent or someone much older than you? • How can you avoid this situation in the future?

  3. Safe driving – DRINK-DRIVING • DISCUSS THIS SCENARIO: • You and your mates are in the pub - it’s last orders. You suddenly notice that your ‘designated driver’ is finishing off a pint of lager. What do you say or do? • What if you have no money left for a bus/taxi? • What if your parents have been drinking at home? • What if it was just half a pint? • How can you avoid this situation in the future?

  4. Safe driving – DRUG-DRIVING • DISCUSS THIS SCENARIO: • You’re at a party and your mate offers you a lift home. You know they’ve just smoked a joint. What can you say or do to keep yourself safe? • What if it was just a couple of puffs? • What if there’s a group of you wanting to get back and everyone else is fine with it? • How can you avoid this situation in the future?

  5. Safe driving – BELTING UP • DISCUSS THIS SCENARIO: • You’re driving your mates to the shops. The person behind you in the car isn’t belted up. What can you say or do? • What if they refused to belt up? • What if they couldn’t get their seat belt out from under the seats? • What if you were in the front passenger seat? • How can you avoid this situation in the future?

  6. Safe driving – UNLICENSED/UNINSURED DRIVING • DISCUSS THIS SCENARIO: • Your mate turns up to ask if you want to go to the cinema. His parents are away and he’s ‘borrowed’ their car. You know he hasn’t passed his test yet. What do you say or do to keep yourself safe? • What if the car was full of your friends and they were pressuring you to get in? • What if your mate HAD passed his test – he just wasn’t insured for that car? • How can you avoid this situation in the future?
