What is a “Bump it Up Wall”? • A visual reference that displays leveled student work • Allows students to independently recognize what areas of their work need improvement • Used in conjunction with a rubric • Students become involved in the evaluation process and learn to rank assignments • Provides a forum to have a discussion on how to “deconstruct” an assignment

  3. What are the Benefits of a “Bump it Up Wall”? For Students: • Become invested contributors of their learning • Deeper understanding of assignment criteria • Students switch roles with the teacher • Marking schemes are better understood • Encourages self and peer assessment • Practice completing assignment based on each level • Compare their assignments to other levels to determine how to "bump it up" For Teachers: • Student submitted work is at a higher level • Supports the teacher evaluation on the overall level achieved • Exemplars can be reused

  4. What are the Drawbacks of a “Bump it Up Wall”? • Lack of portability • High use of limited classroom real estate • Potential for damage and vandalism The Solution? A Virtual “Bump it Up Wall”

  5. Step One: Scan The Work • Generally speaking, a “Virtual Bump it Up Wall” works best when the files are saved as a *.pdf • Files open on all computers quickly and easily • Files are then stored in the “Web Locker”, which can be found in the Advanced tab • This is best organized by creating a subfolder • Note the URL of the stored *.pdf file

  6. Step Two: Create a New Web Site “Sub Page” • Title a new sub page as “Virtual Bump it Up Wall”

  7. Step Three: Edit The "Sub Page” • Select images to represent each of the four levels in the “Virtual Bump it Up Wall”.

  8. Step Three: Edit The "Sub Page” • Hyperlink the chosen image to the URL of the *.pdf that you stored in the “web locker”

  9. Step Three: Edit The "Sub Page” • Repeat for each level of the “Virtual Bump it Up Wall” • Save and enjoy
