What Exactly is God's Will for Me? Romans 8:28-30 Dr. Jerry Tallo Sunday, April 21, 2013
Romans 8:28-30 (ESV) And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Chapter Eight: Context - We are His children and heirs - Life has suffering, which cannot compare to glory to come - In weakness and unfairness, God does amazing things in me
Explaining Verse 28 - We are called to a purpose - Verse 29 explains the purpose: conformance - Verse 29 explains the goal: We work in the family business - Verse 30 explains the process: inside-out toward destiny
Illustrated by Psalm 23:1-4 - Sheep totally dependent upon Shepherd - We need the next pasture, not a 10 year plan - Not all waters are still - "Paths" are a short term picture - All walk through the valley of the shadow - Deep revelation of Him comes with it, and we change
Our conclusions - God is more concerned with us becoming like Him than what we accomplish - The plan (my destiny) unfolds as I daily become conformed - The journey is one path at a time - Striving to be “cutting edge,” I can easily miss the next path - As I waste time with Jesus, my destiny happens
