Properties of Quadrilaterals Kites and Trapezoids By: Kayla Herren
Kites • 10 Rules: • Sum of int. is 360˚ • Sum of ext. is 360˚ • Some have 1 right angle/some don’t • 2 pairs of congruent, adjacent sides • 1 pair of opp. angles are congruent • Diagonals are not congruent • 1 diagonal bisects 2 angles • 1 diagonal is bisected • Diagonals are perpendicular • Congruent triangles are created
Practice… • Emily, label the sides that are congruent. • Chance, label the angles that are congruent. • Durda, draw the diagonals and label the two angles that are bisected by the one diagonal. • Connor, label the congruent triangles that are created.
Practice with angles • Jeremiah, if angle ACD is 45˚, then what is angle CAB? • 45˚, because angle CEA is 90˚ • Lexi, if angle ACB is 100˚, then what is angle ADB? • 100˚, because they are congruent • Katie, if angle ACD is 45˚, then what is angle DCB? • Not enough information is given.
Trapezoids • Midsegment connects the 2 legs • Midsegment is parallel to the bases • Midsegment is ½ the length the sum of the bases
2 Different Types… Right Trapezoid Isosceles Trapezoid • 2 90˚ angles • Sum of int. is 360˚ • 1 pair of opp. sides are parallel • No sides are congruent • Diagonals are not congruent • 1 pair of opp. sides intersect • Some adj. angles are supp. but not all • Sum of int. angles is 360° • 1 pair of opp. sides are parallel • 1 pair of opp. sides are intersecting • No right angles • Legs are congruent • Diagonals are congruent • Base angles on each leg are supp.
Practice… • Ransom, what is midsegment EF? • Joe, what is angle B, if angle C is 78°?
