Program Details • Teens will be responsible for collecting canned goods & bringing them to the library • The organization is up to them- classrooms, Girl/Boy Scout Troops, youth groups and individuals are welcome to participate on their own terms • The library will track progress by “filling” a poster board can, with an ultimate goal of 5,000 cans
Rationale & Intended Outcomes Personal Teen Growth Community Benefit Local food shelter receives donations of food and money Less fortunate members of community can enjoy Thanksgiving Library receives publicity New members of the community may become more aware of the library as a vital part of the town This may increase patronage as well as general good-will in the community • Benefits of volunteering according to Porritt, 1995: • “shared sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from giving back to the community” • “discuss service and community issues and get to know each other better” • “helps teenagers to relate to other generations” • Builds self-confidence, promotes civic responsibility, improves communication, and relieves isolation
Community Partners Local Business Local Foodbank *local foodbank x* will receive the food collected by teens as well as the matched monetary donation by *local business x* • *local business x* will donate $0.25 for each can received to *local foodbank x*, up to $2,000
Budget Advertisement Supplies Construction paper, poster board and permanent markers for poster board can: $25 Large cardboard boxes to hold donated food: $35 • Handouts for Teen, Circulation and reference desks: $40 • Fliers to be posted around community: $20 Total: $120
Marketing Plan “Real” Virtual Listing on library website teen page Email announcements to library subscribers Facebook Event • Fliers to be handed out at Teen, Circulation and Reference desks • Fliers posted in library and at local middle & high schools, grocery store, churches, and other local businesses
