Geometry Unit 5
Warm –up • Describe the translation that moved the rectangle ABCD to rectangle A’B’C’D’.
Unit 5 Geometry • Translation • Reflection • Rotation • Horizontal and vertical stretch/ compress
Translation – slide • A translation slides an object a fixed distance in a given direction. • The original object and its translation have the same shape and size. They face in the same direction. • The translation preserves the distance and the lettering order.
The rules of translation For any real number a or b , Sliding to the right Sliding to the left Sliding up Sliding down
Example • What is the rule for the translation?
Example • What is the translation for triangle ABC to A’B’C’? • Write in words. • Write the rule.
Warm –up • What is the translation of the quadrilateral EFGH to E’F’G’H’?
Reflection – Flip • A reflection is a flip over a line. • Every point has the same distance from the central line. • It has the same size of the original image. • A reflection can happen across x- axis or y- axis or any line
The rules for reflection • For x- axis reflection change the sign of y • For y- axis reflection change the sign of x • For the line y=x , swap both • For the line
Example • What is the line of reflection? What is the rule?
