Updated Problem Statement Want the 2011 U of I CSC sled to be CLEANER and QUIETER • Cleaner: • Goal: meet National Park Standards E-score of 170 • Carbon Monoxide less than 120 g/kW-h • Unburned Hydrocarbons less than 15 g/kW-h • Quieter: • Target: pass competition with 78 dB • Goal: meet National Park Standards of 73 dB
Catalytic converter (CAT) from aristo • One blank CAT for back pressure testing • One CAT with 200 cells per inch • CAT Size: 3.5” x 3.5” • Body size: 4.5” length x 3.5” dia. • Four more CAT’s on the way • Put one aside for use in competition with 2-3 hours break-in time • During testing we have met NPS
Experimentation 1 12/2/2010 • Each configuration was tested 6 times: 3 times per side • dBA is the average of all the runs
Experimentation 2 1/9/2011 • Wondered if stock was quieter simply because it was inside the chassis • Ran another set of tests with the stock hanging outside • Determined that inside versus outside the sled did not affect sound
Possible options w/two Hushpowers Linear Triangular
System Diagram Welded Top Cap Shell Intake Hushpower Mufflers CAT Welded Bottom Cap Removable End Cap Exhaust
Drawing package • Three parts to machine • Several to cut • Everything will be welded but the end cap which will be bolted Settling Chamber
