The Great Peloponnesian War • First Year • Athens held a public funeral to honor those who died in combat • Second Year • Plague broke out and killed more than one third of all the people • Last Year • 25 years later the Athenian fleet was destroyed • Athens surrendered and the city was demolished
The Trojan War • Apple of Discord • Peleus and Thetis were getting married and did not invite the goddess of discord • The goddess stormed in the banquet and threw a golden apple on the table for the fairest • Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite reached for the apple • Zeus said Paris, prince of Troy would be the judge • Paris chose Aphrodite and she promised him the wife of Menelaus • Paris went to Athens and when King Menelaus left to go to a funeral Paris abducted Helen and took much of his wealth
The Trojan War • Greek Armament • Menelaus was MAD!!!!!!!! • Called upon Helen’s old suitors to help • Many did not want to fight but did send supplies • Ships, money, sailors • Cinyras promised to send 50 ships • The first ship was commanded by his son but the other 49 were toy clay ships with toy clay soldiers
The Trojan War • The War • First nine years consisted of fighting troy and fighting neighboring regions • The Greeks were sent to battle the neighboring regions • Greece was able to destroy the Trojan economy, gather resources, and other spoils of war • The Greeks won many important battles but could not beat the actual city of Troy
The Trojan War • The Trojan Horse • Odysseus ordered a large wooden horse to be built with a hollow inside • The horse was delivered to Troy while the others sailed away • Sinon was left behind to act like he had been left behind and help convince the Trojans to accept the horse • That night Sinon let all the Greek warriors out of the horse and they slaughtered the Trojans
